Digital Magazine Production
Atlas is most noticeably a fashion magazine. The audience can immediately recognise this as the whole front page is taken up by a medium-to-long shot of a woman. She is eye level with the audience, staring directly into the camera; this emphasises that she is on the same level of power as us, no higher nor lower. However it could be argued that since she is staring directly at us, she is creating some kind of power over us, a somewhat trance that pulls us into looking at the magazine, and obviously the first thing the audience would notice about the magazine is her. The colours used are very minimalist, typical of a fashion magazine. The black, whites and greys used contrast with each other, making both the imagine and the writing easy to see. The word 'Delicate' could also be used as a link to the woman, who does look delicate and fragile; once again, tying into this stereotypical view of women that they are all small and graceful. However the colour white, which is used for her clothing, hair and background, all resembles delicacy, and pureness, and so ties in with the word perfectly. Going back to the size of the image too, medium shots and long shots are always used in fashion magazines so they show either the clothing or the face. Close ups can also be used to show make-up and facial accessories.
Fashion magazines are very successful in reaching their target audience; they are always very minimalist and straight to the point. They are purposely like this so the audience can focus on the clothing rather than spending hours reading. This makes the clothing the centre focus of the magazine, but you do tend to find small text somewhere on the page listing the clothing used and possibly the pricing too. The magazines fill both the purposes of entertaining and informing, and also could be argued that they give advice too, in what to wear. Especially in new and upcoming fashion magazines, they tend to be more abstract and 'out there' to appeal to a wide range of audiences, and to interest the audience more. You can see an example of this below.

This double-page spread was taken from inside the magazine. It features the typical conventions of what a fashion magazine always has, the minimalist approach of less text and more photos of the clothing and the model. The left photo is a close up, it features a small percentage of her clothing and background, but mostly focuses on her face. This is both to show her facial expression and her flawless make-up. Her facial expression is interesting, the photo was taken at eye level, but since she is tilting her head up, it creates this dominance over the audience. It seems like she is in charge and control, while giving us this bad look; almost like she knows she is better than us. In the second image to the right, the shot used is a long shot; this is to show the model's full body and clothing, less focused on her face. The word's 'Above the Surface' could link to the heavily themed blue background and clothing, relating to the ocean. The woman's pose is natural and relaxed, simulating the effects of the ocean's waves or the water. In addition, the black text above her shows the audience where they can buy the clothes that she is wearing, and also the pricing.
